East Surrey Choral Society was founded in 1961 by Arthur Toms, and our choir has only had three conductors over the last fifty three years: Arthur Toms, Michael Pilkington and our current conductor, Ian Kennedy. We are based in Caterham, although our members are drawn from a wide area of Surrey.
We present three concerts a year in local churches and halls. Christmas and Easter are usually classical, with a lighter programme in the summer. Members are encouraged to share their love of music - and of choral singing in particular - in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Our concert repertoire is varied and challenging, and rehearsals are always enjoyable, with the extra element of coaching in singing techniques to enhance every singer's potential and improve our performance.
The choir is always pleased to welcome new members; there are no auditions. Alternatively, you can support ESCS through our "Friends" scheme. Friends are guaranteed a complimentary ticket to each concert, a reserved seat, and invitations to our social activities.
For further information about how to join us or become a Friend, see Enquiries.
Rehearsals take place every Tuesday (in term time) from 7.45 - 10pm at the Centenary Hall, Essendene Road, Caterham CR3 5PA
